Methyl 3-bromo-4-methylbenzoate is a drug that has been shown to have affinity for cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. This compound was identified as a potential cancer drug by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry, which is a technique that has been used to identify small molecules from biological matrices. Methyl 3-bromo-4-methylbenzoate has also been shown to be an efficient method for the synthesis of boronic acid derivatives and the identification of their binding sites on cancer cells. This compound may be useful in the treatment of inflammatory diseases and leukemia.
