2-Methyl-3-cyanopyridine is a cholinergic that can be synthesized in two forms: the R and S isomers. The R isomer has been shown to have anticancer activity, while the S isomer has not. This compound has also been shown to alleviate symptoms of psychosis, depression, and inflammatory diseases. 2-Methyl-3-cyanopyridine may inhibit compounds that activate mineralocorticoid receptors (MRs), which are involved in regulating blood pressure and electrolyte balance. It may also modulate the activity of these receptors, which could lead to a potential drug treatment for hypertension or heart disease.
