(R)-Morpholine-3-carboxylic acid hydrochloride is a diazonium salt that is prepared from the reaction of potassium hydroxide with the diazonium salt. It is used in optical and electrochemical analysis, as well as in the production of other chemicals. The major use for (R)-Morpholine-3-carboxylic acid hydrochloride is to produce an inexpensive and industrially useful reagent for the synthesis of cyclopentene derivatives. This reagent also has been used to convert benzophenones into 1,2,4-triazoles. The conversion is carried out by reacting with potassium hydroxide in an alkaline solution to form a diazonium salt which reacts with benzophenone to form a nitrosobenzene derivative. This process can be reversed by adding an acidic solution to the reaction mixture.
