Methyl pentafluorophenyl carbonate (MPPC) is a modified oxazolidinone antibiotic that has been shown to be active against Gram-positive bacteria. It is synthesized by reacting an alkynyl group with a carbonyl group, which results in the formation of an alkoxycarbonyl group and an ethylene group. The synthesis of MPPC can be done by reacting the hydrocarbon group with the expressed ring structure and fluorine with an alkali metal, such as sodium or potassium. MPPC has antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria through its inhibition of protein synthesis. This antibiotic also acts as a topical agent for the treatment of acne.
