4-Methoxyphenylacetamide is a benzyl compound that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. It has been shown to react with sodium sulfate to produce 4-methoxyphenylacetic acid, which can be further reacted with ammonium sulfate to form 4-methoxyphenylacetamide. This reaction takes place in a flask or be carried out in a bioreactor. The condensation products are collected by filtration and washed with water. Ammonium sulfate is then added and the reaction is allowed to proceed for 24 hours at room temperature. The product can be isolated from the mixture by distillation and purified by recrystallization.br>br>4-Methoxyphenylacetamide has been found to inhibit bacterial growth, acting as an antagonist against bacterial acetyltRNA synthetase.
