2-Methyl-4-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-1,2,4-oxadiazinane-3,5-dione (MTDO) is a synthetic compound that inhibits the biosynthesis of lipids. MTDO inhibits the enzyme delta 12 fatty acid desaturase (FAD), which catalyzes the production of polyunsaturated fatty acids. The use of MTDO as an agrochemical has been shown to increase the levels of monocarboxylic acid in animal health, as well as to cause weight loss in animals. The use of MTDO has also been shown to inhibit the growth of certain bacteria and fungi, such as Trichoderma harzianum and Candida albicans.
