(+/-)-4-(4-Fluorophenyl)azetidin-2-one is a cyclodextrin derivative that is chiral and has been shown to have affinity for alcohols. It can be used as a chiral stationary phase in chromatographic methods. (+/-)-4-(4-Fluorophenyl)azetidin-2-one can be synthesized by reacting β-cyclodextrin with 4-fluorobenzaldehyde. The synthesis of (+/-)-4-(4-fluorophenyl)azetidin-2-one has been studied using the high melting point (HMP), solubilized, and elution methods. It has also been studied for its pharmacological properties.
