2-Nitro-6,7,8,9-tetrahydro-11H-pyrido[2,1-b]quinazolin-11-one is a compound that has been synthesized for the purpose of studying the interaction between sulfoxide and mackinazolinone. This molecule has an electron density map in the gas phase with a fingerprint that can be used to differentiate it from other similar molecules. 2NQ was found to have a strong interaction with both mackinazolinones and sulfoxides. The theoretical calculations show that this interaction is due to the presence of molecular orbitals in the ground state that are available for binding. The surface analysis showed that the molecule adsorbs strongly to silica gel and aluminum oxide surfaces.
