5-(2-Nitrophenyl)-2-furaldehyde (5NPA) is an aromatic aldehyde that is used in the synthesis of drugs, dyes, and perfumes. 5NPA has been shown to be active against bacteria including Typhimurium, Staphylococcus, Flavus, Cladosporium glabrata, Listeria monocytogenes, Aspergillus parasiticus and Candida parapsilosis. It also has fungicidal properties against Coccidioides immitis. 5NPA is effective against carboxylate-containing microorganisms such as Streptococcus mutans. 5NPA has a vapor pressure of 3 mmHg at 20°C and an evaporation rate of 4.0x10^-4 cm/s at 20°C. The boiling point is 202°C and its melting point is -84.5°C.
