4-Nitro-1H-indazole is a chemical compound that has been shown to have anticancer activity. It induces apoptosis in human ovarian carcinoma cells and inhibits the growth of other cancer cells. The apoptotic activity of 4-nitro-1H-indazole is due to its ability to bind to the mineralocorticoid receptor and form a ternary complex with hydrogen bond. This binding prevents the formation of a hydrogen bond between the receptor and DNA, which would normally inhibit apoptosis. 4-Nitro-1H-indazole also has antiinflammatory properties because it blocks prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase 2 (COX2) enzyme activity.
