1-Nitropyrene is a nitro compound that can be used as a fluorescent probe for kinetic energy. 1-Nitropyrene has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzymes such as phosphofructokinase, pyruvate kinase, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, and lactate dehydrogenase. It also inhibits DNA synthesis in cells by binding to deoxyribonucleotide triphosphates and preventing their incorporation into DNA. The significance of these findings is that 1-nitropyrene may have genotoxic effects on humans. This compound has been studied using molecular docking analysis to determine the interactions between this molecule and an enzyme called polymerase chain (PCR).
