1-Oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indene-4-carbonitrile is an organic chemical compound that is used as a reagent in the Friedel-Crafts acylation of chiral chlorides. The reaction with malonate and benzylamine derivatives takes place in the liquid phase with tetrahydrofuran as solvent and hydrochloric acid as catalyst. 1-Oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indene-4-carbonitrile reacts with chloride to form a chlorinated product.
