Octenylsuccinic acid is a fatty acid ester that belongs to the group of active substances. It is a natural compound that can be found in plants, animals, and fungi. Octenylsuccinic acid has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to the ribosome's aminoacyl tRNA binding site. The phase chromatography technique was used to separate octenyl succinic acid from other components of the liver oil obtained from sheep. Octenylsuccinic acid is also effective as an additive in detergent compositions to prevent corrosion of metal surfaces. In addition, octenylsuccinic acid can be used as a food preservative or a fungicide because it inhibits fungal growth by inhibiting enzymes involved in fatty acid and glucose metabolism.
