1,1,1,3,5,7,7,7-Octamethyltetrasiloxane is a volatile liquid that is used as a fumigant. It is used in the manufacture of silicone elastomers and sealants. This chemical has been shown to be an effective sealant and to have good adhesion properties. It also has excellent resistance to high temperatures and chemicals. The mechanism of 1,1,1,3,5,7,7,7-octamethyltetrasiloxane is not fully understood but it may involve hydrogen bonding with the organic solvent. In addition to its use as a sealant and fumigant this chemical can be used as a ligand for bifunctional catalysts for polymerization reactions or for kinetic studies on polyolefins
