Ornipressin is a vasoconstrictor that is used to treat oesophageal varices, inflammatory bowel disease, nephrology dialysis, and constant pressure. Ornipressin is also used to treat infections caused by bacteria that are susceptible to this drug. Ornipressin reduces the volume of blood in the circulatory system by constricting the blood vessels, thereby increasing the systolic pressure. Ornipressin may be used for the treatment of autoimmune diseases or for kidney fibrosis in nephrology dialysis patients. Ornipressin has been shown to increase glomerular filtration rate and reduce sodium citrate levels in patients with chronic renal failure. The clinical relevance of ornipressin has not been established.
