1,3-Oxazole-4-carboxylic acid is a synthetic compound that has been shown to inhibit the endothelin-a receptor. It binds to the receptor and blocks its ability to bind with endothelin-a, which prevents the activation of phospholipase C and calcium channels. 1,3-Oxazole-4-carboxylic acid has been synthesized from a copper salt and an imidazole derivative. The synthesis involves an amide bond formation followed by an esterification reaction. This compound also has been shown to have cytotoxic effects against cancer cells in vitro.
