- Benzoic acid, 4-(2-phenylethynyl)-
- 4-PHENYLETHYNYL-BENZOIC ACID
4-(Phenylethynyl)benzoic acid is an organic compound that is a monomer with the general formula CHEt. The molecule contains a terminal carbon-carbon triple bond and two different functional groups, which are phenol and ethynyl. 4-(Phenylethynyl)benzoic acid can be prepared by the condensation of 4-aminophenol and piperidine in the presence of sodium acetate or potassium acetate in ethanol at temperatures between 0 and 100 degrees Celsius. This reaction yields an aminophenol derivative having a terminal alkyne group. The reactive nature of this compound makes it useful for stepwise syntheses, such as the synthesis of high molecular weight polymers with reactive groups on both ends.
