Potassium (butoxycarbonothioyl)sulfide is a product of the reaction between potassium and carbon disulfide. It is a white crystalline solid, which can be obtained by reacting potassium with carbon disulfide in the presence of xanthate. The reaction was found to be first order in both reactants, with a rate constant of 1.5 × 10 M-1 s-1. The mechanism of this reaction is not known, but it may involve substitution at the sulfur atom. Potassium (butoxycarbonothioyl)sulfide has been shown to have depressant effects on rat brain function, as well as anti-inflammatory effects when given orally to animals.
