Perchlorocyclopentene (PCP) is an organic compound with a chemical formula of CClF. It is a colorless liquid that has low energy and can be used industrially in the preparation of other compounds. PCP undergoes an exothermic reaction upon contact with calcium stearate, phosphorus pentachloride, and hydrogen fluoride. It is also used to chlorinate aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benzene, to produce chloroaromatics. PCP has been shown to have genotoxic effects in vitro and in cell culture model systems, which may be due to its chlorine atom.
