Polysulfate glycosaminoglycan is a synthetic polysaccharide that has anti-inflammatory properties. It is used for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, aspergillosis, and infectious diseases. Polysulfate glycosaminoglycan binds to the receptor CD44 on eosinophils and monocytes, which causes an increase in their phagocytic activity. This activity leads to the clearance of bacteria and other unwanted materials from the body. The long-term efficacy of this drug has not been established yet. Polysulfate glycosaminoglycan also binds to CD4+ T cells, which inhibits HIV infection by preventing gp120 binding to CD4 receptors.
