1,5-Pentanediolbis(methanesulfonate) is a chemical compound that has been found to be effective for the treatment of weevil-related problems. It has been shown to have greater efficacy than busulfan in the treatment of weevils. 1,5-Pentanediolbis(methanesulfonate) is a non-cyclic aziridine and its mechanism of action is not well understood. The compound is believed to inhibit cell proliferation by interacting with DNA, RNA or protein synthesis. This chemical also inhibits the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo by inhibiting DNA synthesis. 1,5-Pentanediolbis(methanesulfonate) has been shown to be metabolized into other compounds, such as chloride ions and pharmacokinetic compounds, which are subject to further study.
