3,4-Pyridinedicarboximide is a synthetic molecule with antinociceptive properties. It is structurally related to the natural compound L-tyrosine and is a member of the lactam class of chemicals. 3,4-Pyridinedicarboximide has been shown to be active against tuberculosis in mice and other animal models. It also has anti-inflammatory effects that are mediated by its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. This drug is an analog of phenylacetic acid, which is a known anti-inflammatory agent. 3,4-Pyridinedicarboximide has been tested in human volunteers for pain relief and did not show any adverse effects on blood pressure or pulse rate. The drug has photostability and can be used as a reference compound for identifying chemical structures in the nmr spectrum.
3,4-Pyridinedicarboximide also exhibits electrochemical activity
