2-Phenyl-acetamidine is a chemical compound that is used in the treatment of cancer. It inhibits the growth of cancer cells by inhibiting serotonergic receptors. 2-Phenyl-acetamidine also inhibits the chloride channel, which leads to an increase in serotonin levels and to increased cell proliferation. 2-Phenyl-acetamidine has been shown to inhibit the growth of human malignant melanoma cells and CCR5 receptor-expressing cells. The molecule 2-phenyl acetamide has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of HIV replication and can be used for the treatment of AIDS.
