8-Phenethyl-1-oxa-3,8-diazaspiro[4.5]decan-2-one (8PEOD) is a drug that has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties and is used in the treatment of bowel disease. 8PEOD has been shown to inhibit the activity of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases (PDE) and may be a potential therapeutic for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This drug also has been shown to reduce symptoms of bronchial asthma in animal models, making it an attractive candidate for pharmacological treatment. 8PEOD is a phase transition material with a phase transition temperature of about -20°C. At this temperature the crystal structure undergoes a phase change from monoclinic to orthorhombic. The thermodynamic data for this process are available as well as information on its association constants with other molecules such as sodium citrate, which can be used to prepare samples for analysis
