Carprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to relieve pain and inflammation in dogs. Carprofen has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzymes, such as cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase, which are responsible for the production of prostaglandins. The active form of carprofen is 2-(4-n-propylphenyl)propanoic acid. Carprofen can be found in impure form and contains other substances that may have adverse effects on the environment.
