Pentafluorobenzenesulfonamide is a pharmacological agent that inhibits the growth of cancer cells by binding to the carbonic anhydrase enzyme. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in tissue culture, and is used as an antimicrobial agent against gram-positive organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis. Pentafluorobenzenesulfonamide also prevents restenosis after angioplasty by inhibiting the proliferation of smooth muscle cells. This drug is stable in acidic solutions and may be used for titration calorimetry to measure carbon dioxide concentrations. Pentafluorobenzenesulfonamide binds to human liver enzymes, but not to other tissues. It has a low molecular weight and high solubility, which make it useful as a carrier molecule. The drug is eliminated by hepatic metabolism with multidrug resistance properties, which may be due to its ability
