9-Phenylanthracene is a solute that is soluble in trifluoroacetic acid. 9-Phenylanthracene has a second-order rate constant of 0.0004 mol/L/min, and its viscosity at 25°C is 1.00 cP. The model system for this compound is an aromatic hydrocarbon with a molecule size of 102.5 g/mol, and it has been shown to react rapidly with hydrogen gas to form the corresponding phenanthrene derivative (1). It has also been shown to react with solutes such as water and ammonia, forming hydrogen bond and transfer reactions respectively (2). 9-Phenylanthracene has been shown to have an activation energy of 58 kJ/mol (3), and the reaction mechanism has been determined by nmr spectra experiments (4).
