Potassium borohydride is a solid-phase extraction catalyst that is used in the reaction of fluorescence spectrometry. It is a compound with high chemical stability and low toxicity. Potassium borohydride reacts with acids to form an acid complex, which can be detected by means of fluorescence spectrometry. The reaction mechanism for this process is not well understood, but it has been shown to be sensitive to the presence of magnesium ions and fatty acids.
