4-(Piperidin-1-yl)phenylamine (4PP) is a neutral form of primary amines that has been shown to inhibit the replication of influenza virus in cell culture. 4PP is an acetonitrile derivative and reacts with light to produce light emission, which may be related to its anti-influenza virus activity. It also has hydrophobic properties and can react with other compounds in the presence of UV light. 4PP has been shown to inhibit the replication of influenza virus by blocking viral neuraminidase activity. This drug can bind to the active site of the influenza virus neuraminidase enzyme and block its ability to cleave sialic acid from glycoproteins on host cells.
