4-Phenylbutanol is a phenol that has been shown to have anticancer activity. The anticancer activity of 4-phenylbutanol is due to its ability to bind to the serine protease, which is an enzyme that is involved in the cleavage of proteins, and inhibit the release of chloride ions. This inhibition blocks the proliferation of human cervical carcinoma cells. Furthermore, 4-phenylbutanol has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and can be used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as asthma and arthritis. The anticancer activities are related to the aromatic hydrocarbons that are released during processing. Cleavage products are formed through a cationic polymerization reaction with multiwalled carbon nanotubes, which produce diphenolase activity.
