Phenyl ether-biphenyl eutectic is a mixture of two substances, diphenyl ether and biphenyl. It has been shown to react with water vapor in the air to produce hydrogen tartrate. This reaction is catalyzed by acidified potassium hydroxide solution, which also reacts with serum alanine in urine samples to produce the same product. The mixture was found to be stable at room temperature and showed no signs of decomposition or thermal expansion. The presence of naphthalene and fatty acids was detected through a chromatographic method using fluorescence detection.
