2H-Pyrazole-3-carbothioic acid amide (2HPCA) is a new chemical entity that inhibits the replication of several viruses, including human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), and vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV). It has been shown to be active against HCT116 cells in cell culture. 2HPCA has been developed as an innovative antiviral agent with potential use for the treatment of cancer. It binds to nucleophilic sites on viral DNA polymerase and inhibits viral replication. 2HPCA is currently being tested for its effect on other cancers, such as colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer.
