- (5R)-5-Phenyl-L-proline
(2S,5R)-5-Phenylpyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid is a synthetic compound that has been shown to inhibit the activity of serine proteases. It was developed as an anticoagulant drug and is used in the treatment of thromboembolic disease. (2S,5R)-5-Phenylpyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid inhibits the enzyme by blocking its active site. This prevents the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin and limits blood clotting. The chemical structure of (2S,5R)-5-Phenylpyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid is asymmetric and chiral. This means that it can exist in two different forms, with differing properties. These two forms are called enantiomers, one being dextrorotatory and the other levorotatory.
