3-(Pyridin-3-yl)propan-1-amine is an organic compound with the formula CHN. It is a modification of pyridine and can be viewed as its 3,4,5-substituted analog. The compound is an important precursor to drugs such as tetracycline and chloroquine. 3-(Pyridin-3-yl)propan-1-amine can be synthesized by the Suzuki reaction with potassium hydride (KH) and peroxide:
The reaction requires a stoichiometric amount of KH and yields a mixture of 2 products in a 2:1 ratio. The major product is the desired product, while the minor product is cis, trans but not syn 3-(pyridin-3-yl)propanamide. The major product has been characterized by NMR spectroscopy and found to exist as a mixture of two diastereomers in approximately equal amounts
