Pinacyanol bromide is a polymer that is insoluble in water. It has been shown to bind to the surface of a metal particle and form an insoluble polymer film. The uptake of the polymer film on the metal particles was studied by titration method and found to be dependent on the concentration of pinacyanol bromide solution, as well as on the pH and temperature. Pinacyanol bromide has also been found to bind to fabric samples with high affinity, which may be due to its primary amino group. Pinacyanol bromide has been used for a variety of purposes, including for use as a metachromatic dye in urine samples and as a radiation shield in thermally sensitive environments.
