Phenylphosphine is an organic solution that is used as a reagent in vitro. It can be synthesized from a reaction of sodium salts, trifluoroacetic acid, and alcohols. The asymmetric synthesis of phenylphosphine involves the use of palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions which are classified as organometallic chemistry. Phenylphosphine can also be detected by gas chromatography with detection sensitivity that ranges from 0.1 to 1 part per million (ppm). The most widely used method for identifying phenylphosphine is by nmr spectroscopy. Using this technique, the chemical structure of phenylphosphine can be identified by its characteristic nmr spectrum. In vitro assays have shown that phenylphosphine binds to receptors and has an affinity for water vapor and radiation.
