3-Quinolinecarbonitrile is an inhibitor for a number of kinases, including epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRalpha), and vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFR). 3-Quinolinecarbonitrile has been shown to have potent antitumor activity in vitro and in vivo. It has also been shown to have inhibitory effects on inflammatory diseases such as asthma. The compound binds with the reactive site of the protein kinase, thereby inhibiting its activity. 3-Quinolinecarbonitrile inhibits the growth of cancer cells, which may be due to its inhibition of EGFR, PDGFRalpha, VEGFR, and other kinases. The molecule binds to the ATP binding site of these enzymes and blocks their function by forming hydrogen bonds with the phosphate groups on ATP.
