Resveratrol is a polyphenol that has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It has been shown to have chemopreventive effects against cancer in animals, as well as inhibit the growth of tumours in cell cultures. Resveratrol has been studied for its antioxidant activity and investigated for its ability to protect cells from oxidative damage. Resveratrol also has high bioavailability and can be quantitated in plasma, urine, and tissues after oral administration. The aglycone form of resveratrol is inactive, but it can be conjugated with glucuronic acid or sulfate to increase its lipophilicity and bioavailability.
