Succinamide is an amide that is used as a polymerase chain-terminating agent in the treatment of congestive heart failure and bowel disease. It has been shown to be effective against solid tumours in vivo and in experimental models. Succinamide stabilizes hydrogen bonding interactions with DNA, leading to the termination of DNA synthesis. The chemical stability of succinamide is increased by esterification reactions with alkanoic acids. Succinamide has been shown to have anticancer properties through its inhibition of RNA synthesis, protein synthesis, and cell division.
