Descrizione:
6-Sulfatoxymelatonin (6-SMT) is a biologically active metabolite of melatonin. It has been shown that 6-SMT levels are statistically higher in humans after exposure to light and that it has locomotor activity. The clinical relevance of 6-SMT is unknown, but there is evidence suggesting that it may be involved in the regulation of blood pressure and cholesterol levels. 6-SMT can be used as a marker for the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea, which is characterized by an increase in the production of this metabolite.
