Seneganolide is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have anti-diabetic properties. It is synthesized by the condensation of two molecules of 2,4,6-trichlorobenzoyl chloride with one molecule of the amino acid L-alanine. Seneganolide has also been shown to have neuroprotective activities in diabetic rats and x-ray structure analysis. The leaf extract from the tree Senegalia senegalensis has also been shown to have an antifeedant effect on various insects and a hypoglycemic effect in mice.
