Strychnine is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the sesquiterpene lactone receptor and inhibits the binding of neurotransmitter molecules. It is used as a tool for mapping the distribution of this receptor in cells. Strychnine has been shown to have agonist binding sites in the central nervous system, and it is believed that this drug may be responsible for body formation and sublethal doses. Strychnine has been shown to have an effect on monoamine neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine. This drug also inhibits GABA-gated chloride channels in neurons by binding to a specific site on the GABA receptor.
