Sarsasapogenin is a natural drug that belongs to the group of triterpenoids. It has been shown to have neurotrophic effects and can be used as a potential treatment for neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease. Sarsasapogenin also has anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, this compound has been shown to inhibit the mitochondrial membrane potential and locomotor activity in mice. The toxicity studies show that sarsasapogenin does not have any adverse effect on the liver or other organs of experimental animals. This drug is also effective in reducing liver lesions in rats with chronic liver injury.
