Sodium chloroacetate is an inorganic acid that is used for the treatment of wastewater. It reacts with water vapor to form sodium carbonate and hydrogen chloride. Sodium chloroacetate can also be used as an intermediate in the production of detergents and soaps, as a corrosion inhibitor, or as a metal-removal agent. The reaction mechanism involves the formation of an amide with surface methodology and intermolecular hydrogen bonds. The reaction solution contains monoclonal antibodies that are specific for naphthenic fatty acids, which bind to the fatty acid chains on the surface of bacteria, leading to their death.
