Thiophene-2-carbonyl chloride is a fatty acid that reacts with copper to form an antimicrobial agent. It has been shown to be effective against cervical cancer cells, and the reaction mechanism is thought to involve the formation of a reactive oxygen species. Thiophene-2-carbonyl chloride also has antiinflammatory properties, which are most likely due to its ability to inhibit adenosine A3 receptor activity. This drug also inhibits glycosidic bond synthesis, which may be useful for treating type II diabetes.
