Tetrahydropyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazine is a neuroleptic drug that belongs to the class of heterocyclic compounds. It is a chiral compound with two enantiomers. The racemic mixture has been shown to have histone deacetylase and reductase inhibition properties. Tetrahydropyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazine has been found in natural products such as plants, animals, and bacteria. This compound is also present in traditional medicines such as Ayahuasca brews and other Amazonian remedies. Tetrahydropyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazine binds to the catecholamine neurotransmitter receptors and blocks them from binding with their ligands, which leads to increased levels of dopamine in the body.
