- O-Trifluoromethoxybenzoic Acid
2-(Trifluoromethoxy)benzoic acid is a polycarboxylic acid that has been used in clinical studies to treat congestive heart failure. It activates the hydroxyl group of 2-substituted benzoic acids, leading to their site-specific reactions with nucleophiles. These reactions are useful in the study of DNA and RNA synthesis, as well as protein synthesis. 2-(Trifluoromethoxy)benzoic acid has also been shown to be effective against basophilic leukemias and is considered to be a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor.
2-(Trifluoromethoxy)benzoic acid inhibits the enzyme carbonic anhydrase, which catalyzes the conversion of CO2 into HCO3-. This inhibition leads to increased levels of bicarbonate ions in the blood, which can result in a decrease in blood pH levels (acidosis). The acidic environment may cause
