Tetrahydrothiophene-3-ol 1,1-dioxide is a metabolite of tetrahydrothiophene, which has been shown to have antiproliferative effects. Tetrahydrothiophene-3-ol 1,1-doxide inhibits the growth of human cervical cancer cells by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis in these cells. Tetrahydrothiophene-3-ol 1,1-dioxide binds to DNA and alters the expression of genes that are involved in the regulation of cell cycle progression and control. This compound also inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes and blocking protein synthesis. The compound can be detected in both plasma samples and plant tissue samples with chromatographic methods. Hydration or hydrogen chloride treatment can increase the solubility of this compound, making it easier to detect using analytical methods such as electrospray mass spectrometry.
