3-(1H-Tetrazol-5-yl)benzoic acid (3HTBA) is a ligand that binds to the metal center of a cofactor. It can be used in a reaction with a polymeric substrate to form a two-dimensional polymer. 3HTBA has been shown to be an efficient ligand for the synthesis of polymers with various functionalities and topologies. 3HTBA is also able to coordinate carboxylates, hydroxyls, and amines in the presence of hydrogen bonds. The crystal structure of 3HTBA has been determined by X-ray crystallography, revealing its difunctional nature.
