Tris(2-methoxyphenyl)phosphine (TMPP) is a nucleophile that can be used to replace the nucleophile in organic reactions. It is structurally similar to the phenylphosphine, which has been successfully used as a nucleophile in organic reactions. TMPP has been shown to be activated by electron-deficient metal carbonyls, such as hexacarbonyl nickel, and orthoboric acid. It is also an efficient catalyst for the reaction of ferrocenecarboxylic acid with hydrogen chloride, leading to a high yield with primary alcohols. Molecular modelling studies have shown that TMPP binds to palladium complexes through hydrogen bonding interactions and that it may act as an electron sink.
